Aachen Cathedral & Treasury

World Heritage Site in the center of the old town

Centrally located in the heart of the old town, Aachen Cathedral is one of Aachen's top sights. Its architecture and furnishings still emphasize the importance and imposing nature of the building, which was commissioned by Charlemagne at the end of the 8th century. As you enter, its splendid interior reveals itself. Here you can feel the breath of history!

Normal tour times are from 11:00 a.m. on weekdays and from 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are interested in a guided tour, please contact the cathedral information desk - the contact and meeting point for guided tours of the cathedral and cathedral treasury. There you can also obtain further information about the cathedral and its history as well as souvenirs

The Aachen Cathedral Treasur

The cathedral treasury is considered the most important ecclesiastical treasury north of the Alps. Its collection includes numerous sacred gold and silversmith works such as chalices, reliquaries and altar retables.

Marvel at around 600m² of late antique objects and objects from the Carolingian, Ottonian, Hohenstaufen and Gothic periods. They bear witness to the church's long tradition and history as the burial place of Charlemagne and as a coronation and pilgrimage church.

Tickets for the treasury tours and admission tickets for a visit to the Cathedral Treasury are available from the Cathedral Information Office opposite the main entrance to Aachen Cathedral.
